How to Skin & Toast Hazelnuts (The Easy Way!)

My foolproof and easy way to get skin-free, ready-to-eat hazelnuts! Check out the video tutorial below.


How to Skin & Toast Hazelnuts

You'll Need:
Hazelnuts
1-3 tbsp. Baking Soda

Instructions:

  1. Measure hazelnuts (If this is for baking, measure more than recipe calls for*)
  2. Fill a pot ⅓ of the way with water. Bring it to boil.
  3. Add 1 tbsp baking soda, then dump in the hazelnuts.
  4. Let hazelnuts simmer for 3-4 mins while scooping out the extra foam.
  5. In a colander, drain hazelnuts and rinse with cold water.
  6. Preheat oven to 350F.
  7. In the meantime, rub off the hazelnuts skins.
  8. Transfer skin-free hazelnuts onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  9. Toast for 15-20 minutes until light golden brown.
  10. Let them cool.

*For making Baci Di Dama, my recipe called for 140g blanched/toasted hazelnuts. I measured 170g raw hazelnuts to be safe and used about 1 tbsp. of baking soda in a medium-size pot filled 1/3 the way.
