Homemade Pop Tarts

I haven't got a chance to take a photo of these homemade toaster strudels before they were devoured by my family and friends haha. But here's the popular recipe I have used a few times since I started baking and blogging about 2 years ago. People have always asked me how long it took me to make these. Not very long! They are in fact very simple, the longest part would be shaping the tart, but that's the fun part! :)

Homemade Pop Tarts
adapted from Smitten Kitchen

makes 30 pop tarts
4 cups all purpose flour
2 cups unsalted butter, cold and cubed (you can substitute 1/2 cup with shortening for more flakiness)
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk (I used evaporated milk this time. just whatever you have on hand.)

8 oz. strawberry jam or preserves
1 tbsp. corn starch+1/2 tbsp. cold water

beaten egg
Top with: white sesame seeds or sugar
Dust with: powdered sugar after baking if you didn't top it with anything prior!

Note: the sugar and salt can be adjusted to your liking. This recipe is very flexible.
